Weekly Bulletin
Third Sunday after Easter April 30, 2017
Welcome in the name of the Risen Lord Jesus Christ. If you are visiting, we are glad that you are here and kindly ask that you sign our guest book at the sanctuary doors. If you would like to become a member please speak to the Pastor. In case of illness, the Pastor should be informed. He will always be glad to speak with those who are confronted with problems of a spiritual nature. The time before worship is a quiet time for prayer and meditation to prepare for worship. Please see the inside cover of the hymnal for prayers and page 329f to prepare for Holy Communion. Communicant members are asked to fill out a communion card found in the pew racks and place it in the offering plates.

The Risen Lord Jesus Is with Us in Holy Baptism and in ‘the Breaking of the Bread’
From “before the foundation of the world” until heaven and earth pass away, “the word of the Lord remains forever” (1 Peter 1:20, 25). This “living and abiding word of God” is the preaching of Christ Jesus, namely that God “raised him from the dead and gave him glory” (1 Peter 1:21, 23). By this living word, we “have been born again” to eternal life (1 Peter 1:23) and ransomed from our sinful and mortal life “with the precious blood of Christ” (1 Peter 1:18–19). This living word also calls us to repentance, to dying and rising in Holy Baptism “in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins” (Acts 2:38). In this, we receive the Holy Spirit “for you and for your children and for all who are far off” (Acts 2:39). Through the preaching of His cross and resurrection, Jesus draws near to bring us “into his glory” (Luke 24:26). As He opens the Scriptures, He opens our minds to comprehend “the things concerning himself” (Luke 24:27), and He brings us to know Him “in the breaking of the bread” (Luke 24:35).

Collect of the Day
O God, through the humiliation of Your Son You raised up the fallen world. Grant to Your faithful people, rescued form the peril of everlasting death, perpetual gladness and eternal joys; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever.

ORDER OF SERVICE: Divine Service, setting one on page 151. “This Is the Feast” is sung on page 155.
Introit (sung responsively by half-verse)
All your works shall give thanks to you, | O LORD,*
and all your saints shall | bless you!
One generation shall commend your works to an- | other,*
and shall declare your | mighty acts.
On the glorious splendor of your | majesty,*
and on your wondrous works, I will | meditate.
They shall speak of the might of your | awesome deeds,*
and I will declare your | greatness.
They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant | goodness*
and shall sing aloud of your | righteousness.
The LORD is | good to all,*
and his mercy is over all that | he has made.
Glory be to the Father and | to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit;

Everyone intending to commune for the first time is kindly asked to speak with the Pastor prior to the service.
