He will always be glad to speak with those who are confronted with problems of a spiritual nature. The time before worship is a quiet time for prayer and meditation to prepare for worship. Please see the inside cover of the hymnal for prayers and page 329f to prepare for Holy Communion. Communicant members are asked to fill out a communion card found in the pew racks and place it in the offering plates.

 

The Glory of the LORD of Hosts Shines in Mercy, Forgiveness and Salvation

When Isaiah “saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up,” he cried out and confessed that he was “a man of unclean lips.” If even the holy angels cover their faces in the presence of “the King, the LORD of hosts,” how can sinful humans stand before Him (Is. 6:1–5)? Yet, the glory of the Lord is saving grace, and with “a burning coal” from the altar the angel touched Isaiah’s lips, removing his guilt (Is. 6:6–7). Likewise, from the altar of Christ’s cross, by the ministry of the Gospel, “the whole earth is full of his glory” (Is. 6:3). For He was crucified, died and was buried, “according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God,” and God “raised him up, loosing the pangs of death” (Acts 2:23–24). He “received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:33), and He raises up the fallen world by pouring out His life-giving Spirit upon sinners through His earthly Means of Grace. To give this saving gift, God sent His Son into the world, “that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16–17).

Almighty and everlasting God, You have given us grace to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity by the confession of a true faith and to worship the Unity in the power of the Divine Majesty.  Keep us steadfast in this faith and defend us from all adversities; for You, O Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, live and reign, one God, now and forever.

Since the Lord’s Supper gives the forgiveness of sins in the body and blood of Christ to all who believe the words “given and shed” and is also a celebration of oneness in faith, we ask that only those who have professed such faith publicly in a Lutheran Church-Canada (or Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod) congregation come to the Lord’s Altar.  Everyone intending to commune for the first time is kindly asked to speak with the Pastor prior to the service.

HOSPICE IN DURHAM:  There will be a presentation on Durham Hospice Clarington on Sunday, May 27.  The speaker will be Marian Timmermanns RN - a founding member of Durham Hospice Clarington.  This is a new Hospice coming to our Region.  Ann

SPECIAL TORONTO CIRCUIT MEETING:  As a result of the decision taken at the Synodical convention in October 2017 regarding restructuring of Synod, it is necessary to amend the bylaws of the East District Corporation. A series of circuit meetings has been arranged in order to explain the proposed changes being proposed to the bylaws and to get comments from members.  The circuit meetings are open to everyone. A summary document plus the draft bylaw, including explanatory notes, are posted on the district web site. It would be beneficial for attendees to the circuit meetings to bring a copy of the 2015 District Handbook for reference purposes and/or to download the information from the website. CHRIST OUR KING NURSERY SCHOOL:  in Mississauga, needs a full-time Teacher/Supervisor, with administrative duties, to start this September.  Candidates for consideration must be Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECE), with a minimum of two years experience, and must possess a B.A. or B.Ed. degree to qualify.  The administrative duties require writing and implementing school policies and procedures, serving as a liaison with the Ontario Ministry of Education and the Region of Peel, and school marketing.  Resumes should be sent by email to principal@christourking.ca by Friday, June 8, 2018.
