Sixth Sunday of Easter       May 6, 2018

Welcome in the name of the Risen Lord Jesus Christ. If you are visiting, we are glad that you are here and kindly ask that you sign our guest book at the sanctuary doors. If you would like to become a member please speak to the Pastor. In case of illness, the Pastor should be informed. He will always be glad to speak with those who are confronted with problems of a spiritual nature. The time before worship is a quiet time for prayer and meditation to prepare for worship. Please see the inside cover of the hymnal for prayers and page 329f to prepare for Holy Communion. Communicant members are asked to fill out a communion card found in the pew racks and place it in the offering plates.

The Lord Jesus Is with His Church in the Apostolic Ministry of the Gospel

The crucified and risen Lord Jesus is with His Church through the word of His apostles, who “are witnesses of all that he did.” He was anointed by God “with the Holy Spirit and with power,” and “he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil,” and so He was with those whom He sent “to preach to the people” (Acts 10:38–42). The Holy Spirit is bestowed on those who hear that apostolic preaching, who are “baptized in the name of Jesus Christ,” so that “everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name” (Acts 10:43–44, 48). For as He came by the water of His Baptism, even to the blood of His Passion, so the Spirit testifies to the truth with “the water and the blood” in the apostolic ministry of the Gospel (1 John 5:6–7). By these means, Christ Jesus speaks to us, that His joy may be in us and that our “joy may be full.” For this purpose, He appointed the apostles to “go and bear fruit” in order to make known His divine friendship to us.

Collect of the Day

O God, the giver of all that is good, by Your holy inspiration grant that we may think those things that are right and by Your merciful guiding accomplish them; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

THANK YOU: Dear Sisters & Brothers of Grace: Reading one of my devotions one morning I came across this passage from “1 Thessalonians 1:3, It was Jim all the way, because I knew he did thank God for all his work produced by Faith, his labour prompted by Love, his endurance inspired by Hope in Jesus Christ our Lord”.  Our family could feel the love and admiration for my husband, their father- grandfather and great-grandfather through all the kind words, visits and treats.  Each and every one at Grace had a special place in his heart.     “He Loved People”.  Our family also heard and felt all the prayers and concerns you had for Jim.  May God bless and Care for you all, In Christian Love, Verna and Family.

THANK YOU: Thank you to Grace members for the phone calls and cards of get well wishes received during my illness. They are much appreciated, I miss the Christian fellowship of the church. The Lord is my refuge and my strength. In Christian love, Jane

In particular, pastors and congregation delegates should make a point of attending these meetings, as they will be required to vote on acceptance of the bylaw changes as part of the October 2018 District Convention. A summary document plus the draft bylaw, including explanatory notes, are posted on the district web site. It would be beneficial for attendees to the circuit meetings to bring a copy of the 2015 District Handbook for reference purposes and/or to download the information from the website.
